I am so grateful to have been a part of this wonderful collaboration, after Kellie from the Dillybag Collective invited me to paint the beautiful Martha. Super appreciative to have been given kind permission by Norma Sams to reference her fabulous capture of little Martha sitting on country on an abandoned termite's nest.

I felt so excited as well as honoured, to be able to paint the beautiful little Martha from the fabulous capture/image, that Norma took on country in order to support ‘The Colour Story’ program. Such a wonderful collaboration with the amazing Kellie of the Dilly Bag Collective and talented Freedom Garvey…had me smiling the whole time I painted sweet Martha.
Rendered initially in acrylics to block in and build up form, followed by oils on the linen…my brush took on a dance of it’s own as it traversed the plains and landscape of Martha’s beautiful face. Her look of spontaneous joy as she sits there on the abandoned termite nest, sitting resplendent in her bush-dyed purple silk dress, with her face turned up welcoming the rays of the sun. A moment in time, captured in photo’s and paint, telling story & helping community ❤
